Ulagalla by Uga Escapes marks its 7 year milestone with traditional festivities and a CSR initiative.
On the 18th of July 2017, Ulagalla proudly celebrated 7 years in the hospitality industry. Situated within the Cultural Triangle in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Ulagalla was once a regal, ancestral home. Hence today, the sprawling property features a 150- year old mansion, with 20 exceedingly private, ecologically constructed chalets added on and expansively spread out across 58 acres of land. Aside from the distinctly serene and peaceful setting, Ulagalla also boasts a solar farm that generates half of the hotel’s energy requirements. This is just one of many initiatives aimed at working in symbiosis with the environment, in an effort to adapt sustainable business practices as much as possible.
The festivities kicked off at 8am with the traditional boiling of milk, followed by a blessing from religious leaders representing all 4 religions. Later on, in a special gesture to commemorate the event, Ulagalla unveiled the sanitary facility to be presented to the Punchikulama School in Punchikulama. The occasion marks the hotel’s entry into their 7th year on a high note, in-keeping with Uga Escapes’ consistent commitment to social development projects.
A special Bodhi Pooja ceremony was then conducted at Jayasiri Maha Bhodiya, in the presence of the General Manager and other members of staff.
The following day, on July 19th 2017, a special dinner was organised for staff members, with a visit from the company CEO Mr. Ramli Gaffoor who thanked the Ulagalla team for their contributions towards the company’s achievements. The staff were also given an opportunity to showcase their talents outside of their general scope, with special performances set up for the evening.
