Sunday Brunch extraordinaire

Posted - 08 May, 2014

Sunday morning at Uga Bay, Passekudah. You’re on holiday, so you don’t really have to get out of bed. But it’s past breakfast-time and you’re hungry.

Sounds like a day for an Uga Bay Brunch.

These Uga Bay Sunday-morning specials are just perfect for the laziest day of the week. Whatever piques your appetite, you’ll find it somewhere amid the amazingly cosmopolitan spread, in which the world’s best-loved cuisines are represented. From waffles with syrup to nigiri sushi, from deciding just what goes into your scrambled eggs to the chance to bake your own cookies, the choices never seem to end.

And of course, you can mix and match to your heart’s delight. Seafood grilled to perfection, bread hot from the oven, wok-fried yaki soba, crisp salads, tuna maki, a Sri Lankan kiri-but and lunu miris, garlic prawns, charcuterie and hot carved viands – combine them all if you like, and if you can find room. Don’t forget the dessert buffet that comes after, with over twenty different items and dozens of variations and sweet toppings.

Once your palate has been well exercised, you can indulge your other senses with the gorgeous coral sand and the intense blue bay, the bar serving long cool ones and morning-after pick-me-ups, the chance to work off last night’s excesses with a brisk swim in the Infinity Pool, and for the truly energetic, a variety of water sports and a scuba-diving visit to a World War I wreck sunk in shallow water just offshore.
